Elizabeth Julian, RSM (Aotearoa, New Zealand), holds a BA, BEd and Certificate in Adult Education from Massey University, a Diploma of Teaching from Palmerston North Teachers’ College; an MEd (Religious Education) from Boston College, Massachusetts; and a DMin from Catholic Theological Union, Chicago. Elizabeth lives in community in Newtown, Wellington, where, after 40 years in teaching, she enjoys encouraging her plants to grow and is involved in various aspects of parish ministry. Her constant flow of writing is evident in her work as a regular contributor for decades of reflections on scripture in Wel-com, her diocesan publication, a regular presenter on feminist biblical themes at professional conferences, on Mary of Nazareth and Mary Magdalene. She has contributed to chapters in biblical anthologies on both New Testament and Hebrew Scripture themes, been a presenter at Bishops’ conferences. She has contributed substantive articles to The MAST Journal over the last twenty years.

What Affected and Challenged Me Most from the Diocesan Summaries

Firstly, I felt affirmed that many of the aspects of the church that have concerned me, also concern many others such as: the role of women, clericalism, power imbalance, clergy formation, mandatory celibacy, lack of accountability and transparency, lack of lay involvement in decision -making, the appointment of bishops, the exclusion of the divorced and remarried and LGBTQ, the quality of our liturgies and homilies,
